Tutorial – Tiled mapEditor Part 1- Create a TMXTiledMap Game
June 9, 2010 20 Comments
Well I had a request from a YouTube subscriber for a Tutorial Series on using Tiled to create a tiledmap game with Cocs2D. I have made the first Part of this Tiled mapEditor tutorial series.
The videos are split into 3 videos since YouTube restricts to 10min. So I appologize for that, if it is annoying.
In these Videos I describe:
- What program to download for creating TMXTiledMaps
- Overview of the Tiled program
- How to create a very basic tile set image for use on your Tiled Maps
- Using Photoshop to create the tile set image.
- And how updating your map and tile images can be done easily during game development.
Here is the link to Tiled Java Version: Tiled Download Link (Java Version)

No Problem.
what photoshop did you use?
CS5 i believe i used
These tutorials are great. It’s helpful to see how someone else works. Obj-C is new to a lot of people and even if your solutions are simple or not best practice, most of us will begin the same way and clean up later (separate classes, variables in XML files etc.).
Hi,
I just wanted to ask if you can make a tut of making a joystick and a gamepad with cocos2d.
That would be great π
Great tut series, I have to say with hours of messing with svg parsing I have given up on it so I think tile maps will be a good direction; and the creating b2bodys through a tilemap. Thank you.
Nice tut. Helped me getting started with Tiled.
Thanks for sharing :o)
Thanks a lot mate !
I really like the way u explained so well and so careful to be clear .
Hope u the best !
Thank you for the videos! Exactly the introduction to using Tiled and making tilesheets I was looking for!
Thank you, this was very helpful!
nice tutorials.. thank you. I am unable to find the next part on Objects in Tiled. Could you please point me to it.
Thx
Seriously thats so awesome! I watch the three videos and that was all I needed to just run with the app. The saving in project folder tip was key to really speed up workflow.
Great tutorial! Thanks a lot.
Thanks for your personal marvelous posting! I really
enjoyed reading it, you can be a great author.
I will be sure to bookmark your blog and may come back in the foreseeable future.
I want to encourage you to ultimately continue your great work,
have a nice afternoon!
Thank you for your great comment. I Have a new blog I just started which I post to on a very regular basis. This blog is a few years old and was done during the creation of that one project. If you would like to follow my current blog it can be found her.
